‘In my world, truth is an imagined thing.’

Timothy Soar has made several journeys to Oklahoma City to photograph recent projects by AHMM. Given the loosest of briefs, his images step away from traditional architectural photography and instead focus on the unfamiliar context and climate in which the practice – and photographer – are working.

The resulting collection of images, presented in A Promise of Living, charts the complex relationship between commissioning client and creative practitioner, all set against the backdrop of Oklahoma City – a place of opportunism and optimism built overnight after the land rush of 1889. Short written essays accompany the photography, celebrating the practice’s enduring fascination with Americana, the unique boom and bust character of OKC, and Tim’s own challenge to capture an imagined truth.
